Budco Wins Michigan Minority Business Development Council Award
HIGHLAND PARK, MICHIGAN October 27, 2008 - In a ceremony at the Renaissance Center Thursday, October 9th, 2008, Budco was named the Michigan Minority Business Development Council's (MMBDC) Corporation of the Year. The MMBDC selects the company that best supports diversity purchasing programs, as indicated by the percentage purchases awarded to MMBDC companies and participation in MMBDC events. Each year a number of prominent area companies compete as finalists for the award.
"Budco is honored to be recognized for its ongoing commitment to diversity initiatives. In 2007, Budco purchases from minority companies totaled nearly 16%; that number has grown from 7% in 2001 when we first began tracking these numbers," said Tony Nader, Budco diversity reporting manager.
Budco President Terry Niles stated, "Not only is this award a prestigious honor for our company, but it publicizes our intent to continue to support diversity purchasing programs. We consistently track purchases made from minority firms and report quarterly to several of our clients in order to support the development of minority business".
For more than 25 years, the MMBDC has offered new and innovative networking programs, events, services and information that support the success of both its certified minority-owned businesses and its corporate members. Budco has been active in the work of the MMBDC, regularly attending meetings and conferences and actively nurturing minority business.
